I'm writing this on 9 January 2026, and Dubai didn't ease into the year. The 1 Billion Followers Summit opened this morning—three days that basically turn the city into a live map of the creator economy. You feel it immediately: creators, founders, brands, platforms, investors, agencies… all moving between rooms, meetings, side conversations, and stages like the city itself is the venue.

What I like about this summit is what it quietly signals about Dubai: this isn't "influencer culture" as entertainment. It's the UAE putting structure around new media as an economic layer—and doing it at scale, with intent. When a city hosts something like this at the start of the year, it's positioning.

That felt like my cue to do something useful: I pull together for you the 10 business & tech events worth building your 2026 calendar around—the ones that reliably concentrate decision-makers, capital, and momentum in a way that shapes what happens next.

1) 1 Billion Followers Summit (1BFS) — Creator Economy meets business, brand, and impact

Edition: 4th

Venues: Jumeirah Emirates Towers, DIFC, Museum of the Future

Key stats: 30,000+ attendees, 15,000+ creators, and 500+ speakers; combined reach 3.5B+ followers.

Why it matters: This summit is no longer "just creators." It's where distribution, brand, AI tools, and monetization models collide—fast. The 2026 theme is "Content for Good," and the summit has tied itself to structured impact initiatives (including the "1 Billion Acts of Kindness" campaign announced with MrBeast). 2) World Future Energy Summit (WFES) — The energy transition, scaled

Venue: ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi

And in 2026, ADSW explicitly highlights ecosystem spaces like the Greenhouse start-up zone and a FUSE AI & cleantech pavilion — a hint it's increasingly "energy + AI + climate-tech commercialisation," not only transition talk.

3) World Governments Summit (WGS) — Policy, platform, and global credibility

Edition: 13th

Dates: 3–5 Feb 2026

Venue: Dubai, UAE

Key stats: 400+ speakers are already flagged for 2026; recent editions drew 6,000+ participants.

Why it matters: WGS is where the UAE positions itself as a global convenor. If you work in govtech, AI governance, public-private partnerships, regulation, or future-of-cities, this summit is less about booths and more about agenda-setting.

WGS is basically a report engine as much as it is a summit — the organisation tracks 179+ reports produced over time, which is a big reason it shapes narratives beyond the event week. For 2026 specifically, WAM reports 200+ sessions and 15 strategic reports planned. Also, there are structured GovTech/M-Gov awards attached to it (so you'll see innovation framed as "recognition + policy adoption," not just ideas).

4) Step Dubai — Startup energy with actual density

Why it matters: Step has a very specific strength: it's one of the few events where you can bounce between founders, operators, and investors without the room feeling like a sales pitch festival. The 2026 theme is AI-economy-centric ("Intelligence Everywhere").

STEP isn't only "talks + booths." It has built-in mechanics that make it more usable: Startup Basecamp, Pitch Competition, mentor corners, and even structured investor meetings. If you're attending for dealflow or partnerships, those formats are the shortcut (instead of hoping you bump into the right person by the coffee).

5) Dubai AI Festival (Dubai AI Week) — The UAE's AI ambition, put on a stage

Why it matters: This one is growing quickly, and it's not trying to be "an AI conference." It's trying to be the platform for AI business across the region—investment, enterprise adoption, policy alignment, and ecosystem building in one place.

The Festival is one piece of Dubai AI Week, which includes things like an AI Retreat, Dubai Assembly for AI, a Global Prompt Engineering Championship, and Machines Can See. That matters because it turns "two conference days" into a full week of rooms across the city. DIFC's announcement also frames it very explicitly as an economic platform (aligned with Dubai's D33 / DIFC strategy) rather than a purely academic AI event.

6) TOKEN2049 Dubai — The crypto room where the world actually shows up

Edition: 4th

Dates: 29–30 Apr 2026

Venue: Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai

Key stats: 15,000+ attendees, 4,000+ companies, 200+ speakers, 200+ exhibitors, 160+ countries, 500+ side events, and >70% C-level.

Why it matters: Whether you're bullish, skeptical, or just curious, TOKEN2049 is useful because it's where capital, infrastructure, regulation talk, and product tend to be in the same radius. It's one of the few events where the side-events are almost as important as the main stage.

The main conference is two days — but the real game is TOKEN2049 Week (meetups, workshops, private dinners, side events). Their own event reporting highlights 500+ side events in prior Dubai editions, which is why people treat it like a "city takeover week" rather than a conference. If you go, plan like you're attending a week, not just two badge days.

7) Dubai FinTech Summit — The region's finance narrative, curated

Key stats: The summit's own updates highlight 8,000+ visitors from 118 countries in a previous edition—strong signal for an event that's still relatively young.

Why it matters: This is one of the cleanest "policy + product + capital" fintech rooms in the UAE calendar, with DIFC-level convening power behind it.

DFS is anchored inside Dubai Future Finance Week, meaning the summit is the flagship but not the whole ecosystem — DIFC curates satellite events around it. Also (this one is fun): the Summit hosts a FinTech World Cup Grand Finale onsite — a competitive format that tends to surface early winners faster than standard panels do.

8) Seamless Middle East — Payments, retail tech, and digital commerce (all at once)

Edition: 26-year legacy

Dates: 12–14 May 2026

Venue: Dubai World Trade Centre

Key stats: 25,000 attendees, 800 speakers, 750 exhibitors.

Why it matters: Seamless is the practical one. If you care about how money moves, how customers buy, and how platforms scale, this show is basically a live dashboard of the region's commerce stack.

Also, Seamless Fintech positions itself as part of Dubai Future Finance Week — which is useful context if you're planning your week for maximum overlap.

9) ADIPEC — Nov 2–5 (ADNEC, Abu Dhabi)

Edition: 40+ year legacy (hosted by ADNOC; "over 41 years of energy leadership")

Dates: 2–5 Nov 2026

Venue: ADNEC, Abu Dhabi

Key stats: 2,250+ exhibitors; 380+ sessions; 1,800+ speakers.

Why it matters: ADIPEC is less "conference" and more global marketplace—a single week where producers, tech, investors, policymakers, and industrial buyers are in the same orbit. If you care about energy transition, infrastructure, data centers demand, industrial AI, or large-scale investment, this is one of the most efficient rooms in the world to understand where things are heading—and who's funding it.

It's one of the more direct "energy + AI" crossovers you'll see packaged as a dedicated experience at a major energy event.

10) GITEX GLOBAL 2026 — The heavyweight, reinvented

Edition: 2025 was the 45th edition; 2026 is the next chapter (so effectively the follow-on edition)

Dates: Scale Summit 7 Dec 2026; Expo 8–11 Dec 2026

Venue: Dubai Exhibition Centre, Expo City Dubai

Key stats: 6,800 tech enterprises + 2,000 startups + 1,200 investors, with participation from 180 nations (based on the most recent 45th edition benchmarks).

Why it matters: GITEX is not just big—it's institution-level. What's interesting in 2026 is the strategic reset: new home, new structure (Summit day + expo days), and an explicit push into "frontier platform" positioning.

2026 is a structural reset: first-ever edition at Expo City Dubai, plus an all-new 5-day format that starts with a dedicated GITEX Scale Summit (Dec 7) before the Expo days (Dec 8–11). And it's not "one show": GITEX officially describes an ecosystem of 9 co-located shows (AI Everything, Expand North Star, Fintech Surge, Future Blockchain Summit, Marketing Mania, etc.), which is why you can attend for totally different reasons and still find your room.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi are designing a corridor of influence: Dubai convenes the digital economy, Abu Dhabi anchors industrial scale and capital. Together, they pull global players back, year after year.
